College recruiters looking for a versatile athlete who can contribute immediately on both sides of the ball should have their eyes on Jason Guzman, a senior wide receiver and free safety at Westminster High School (CA).
Standing 5’10”, 155 pounds, Guzman isn’t the biggest player on the field, but his production speaks for itself. Through the first half of the 2025 season, he’s proven to be one of the most impactful playmakers in the Kappa division, ranking:
- #2 in Punt Return Average (10.7 yards per return)
- #5 in Receiving Yards (219)
- #5 in Total Return Yards (52)
Offensive Skillset
At wide receiver, Guzman has displayed sharp route-running and dependable hands. With 19 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns, he has been Westminster’s go-to target in big moments. His 9-catch, 72-yard, 1-TD performance against CCHS highlighted his ability to move the chains and fight through coverage, while his 4-catch, 70-yard, 1-TD outing vs. Saddleback showed his explosiveness in open space. Averaging 11.5 yards per reception, Guzman consistently stretches defenses and creates mismatches against slower defensive backs.
Special Teams Impact
Guzman’s versatility extends to the return game, where he changes field position with every touch. In the season opener against Sunny Hills, he posted 133 all-purpose yards, including 32 punt return yards and 20 kick return yards, flashing the vision and elusiveness coaches covet at the next level. His 10.7-yard punt return average ranks among the best in his division, a testament to his quick first step and ability to accelerate past tacklers.
Defensive Presence
On the other side of the ball, Guzman’s instincts at free safety have made him a reliable anchor in Westminster’s secondary. He has already tallied 25 tackles (16 solo) this year, averaging 5.0 per game, while also forcing a turnover. His ability to track the ball and close in space makes him an asset against both the run and the pass.
Intangibles and Projection
What sets Guzman apart is his two-way value and football IQ. Coaches can trust him to contribute at multiple positions, which is especially valuable at the collegiate level. Though he projects most naturally as a slot receiver or return specialist, his defensive ability gives him added versatility as a special teams contributor and situational safety.
At 5’10”, 155 lbs, adding size and strength will be key for him to compete at the next level, but his speed, agility, and competitive toughness make him an intriguing prospect for programs looking for a dynamic athlete who can make plays all over the field.
