Mission Viejo put on a commanding performance Friday night, rolling past Long Beach Poly 56-7 in a statement road victory. The Diablos’ balanced attack and suffocating defense overwhelmed the Jackrabbits from start to finish.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mission Viejo struck first when running back Davonte Curtis punched in a 12-yard touchdown run. Long Beach Poly quickly answered, as Deuce Jefferson capped off a strong drive with a 5-yard rushing score to even the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter. From there, it was all Mission Viejo. Curtis added another short rushing touchdown before quarterback Luke Fahey connected with receiver Jack Junker on back-to-back touchdown passes of 59 and 21 yards to give the Diablos a commanding 28-7 halftime lead.

Mission Viejo didn’t slow down in the second half. Carson Vandermade opened the third quarter with a 3-yard rushing touchdown, and the Diablos’ defense continued to smother Poly’s offense, forcing turnovers and sacks that set up short fields.Fahey later added a rushing touchdown of his own, while Noah Carreon and Jovani “Jojo” Reed each found the end zone in the fourth quarter to seal the blowout. Kicker Caleb Sylvia was perfect on all eight extra points.

The Diablos’ defense was just as dominant, forcing two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and several sacks to keep Poly’s offense in check. With the win, Mission Viejo improves its record and continues to build momentum heading into league play, while Long Beach Poly will look to regroup after suffering one of its toughest losses of the season.
