Bonita High School faced off against Edison High School in the CIF quarter-finals. Bonita was favored to win because of their undefeated record entering the game. However, Edison had other plans for them. Edison had opened up with a 20-yard field goal by Nico Bammer. This was then later followed by a rushing touchdown by Julius Gllick in that same quarter. Putting the up ahead with a score of 10-0.
Later on Sam Thomson would throw to Jake Minter for a 31-yard passing touchdown during the second quarter. The Chargers would now go into halftime with the score being 17-0
In the second half, the Chargers struck again. Sam Thomson would throw to Ayden DeGiacamo for a 25-yard pass. Following this pass, Sam Thomson would connect with Shea Sumers for a 16-yard touchdown. The Chargers were now up 24-0. The offense wasn’t the only thing that shined in this game. The defense played a huge part in the victory.
Edison’s defense kept pressure on Bonita’s offense the whole night. Bonita attempted to move the ball around but was unsuccessful. They remained scoreless throughout all four quarters. Jeremiah Ross led the defense with 14 solo tackles and 1.5 sacks. Jordan Pelelaz played a big part in defense with his interception in the fourth quarter. The Chargers handed the Bobcats their first season loss, 24-0. Edison will be on the road again this Friday. They will face Vista Murriterta at Bronco Stadium in the semi-finals.
