Orange, CA- After defeating Servite, Cathedral was looking to add another win to their playoff run. Tonight, they faced off against Villa Park, which came off a close win against Corona. In the end, Cathedral continued their dominance in overtime, beating Villa Park 2-1.

In the first half, Villa Park had full control. Their offense would take advantage of Cathedral’s sloppy defense. The defense gave up a penalty kick to Villa Park. Andre Resendiz would score the penalty kick, which gave them the lead 1-0. We saw no action from Cathedral for the rest of the half as they struggled to make any plays.

Going into the second half is where Cathedral came alive. A clutch goal scored by Jacob Mora would tie up the game 1-1. Both offenses would try to come back to win the game. However, relentless defense from both sides prevented anyone from scoring.
Now, headed into overtime, both teams were on their toes, attempting to close the game. A costly defensive foul from Villa Park would allow Cathedral to attempt a free kick. Taking the kick would be Sebastian Tinco. Tinco would kick it low, allowing Justino Gutierrez to tip it in and win overtime. Cathedral will now face off against Bishop Amat at home for the quarterfinals. Will Cathedral continue with their dominance or will their luck run out.
