Anaheim, CA—It’s time for the CIF-SS Soccer playoffs! In the first round, the Servite Friars hosted the Catherdea Phantomsl. This game had previously been postponed due to bad weather. Servite, the Defending State Champions, were looking for a chance to go for it again, back-to-back. Unfortunately, Catherdeal had other plans. They would go on to defeat Servite with the score being 1-0

In the first half, both teams showcased great offense and defense efforts. Every time Servite’s offense tried to come alive, Cathedral stopped their playmaking. The score would remain 0-0 as the first half ended. Entering the second half, Cathedral set the tone as Jonathan Villamontes went on to score, helping his team finally get the edge. Service tried to tie the game, but Cathedral’s defense prevented them from scoring.

I got the chance to speak with Jonathan Villamontes to see how he felt going into the game. He stated, “I was just really focused; I had faith in my team; we’re an excellent team, and I’m glad we could showcase it today”. With scroing the game winner, he would go on to help his team advance to the second round of playoffs.
